Taste of LA Pt. 2

Breakfast in Beverly Hills <3

Being the healthy person that I am, I ordered a veggie omelette with egg whites only, fruit cup and a freshly squeezed orange juice (which you can't see). American sizes breakfast for $6. This would probably be 1 1/2 meals in Cora's. Also very yummy!

Crazy sized breakfasts; even guys couldn't finish this.

Very Berry Hibiscus. BEST.STARBUCKS.DRINK.EVER. Perfect for summertime, kinda like Passion Tea but lighter and you will not feel like a lump of sugar is stuck in your throat afterwards. Very refreshing. If you go to LA, you MUST try this. (I tried looking for they don't have this in the Starbucks in Seattle).

Cool Lime. Another very refreshing drink for the summer. It kinda tastes like a virgin mojito. If you like lemonade, you'll like this.

Taste of LA

Bubba Gump is a seafood restaurant chain inspired by the movie Forrest Gump. They're most known for their fresh shrimps among all seafoods.

Cute sign to tell our waiter that we need service.

The sign means we don't need help in English.

Dinner by the Santa Monica beach. Sorry for the bad photos, we were really tired that night :(

Shrimper's Net Catch. I didn't eat this, but the guys ate it really quickly, so I presume it's good.

Steamed clams and mussels. Again, I didn't try this, but the guys seemed to like it a lot too.

Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimps. Again, boys' food.

"I'm Stuffed!" Shrimp with crab stuffing, baked in garlic butter, topped with Jack Cheese and Jasmine Rice. So this is mine and I thought the rice with the shrimp was  weird combination. Overall, I was not really impressed; it was too oily and heavy in seasoning for my taste. This is not a big dish, but I was stuffed halfway through and I wasn't able to finish this. If you were really hungry, maybe this would be good.

Fish and Chips. I didn't try it, but according to my friend, it's nothing special.

Overall Review:
Food: 6/10
For a company emphasizing the freshness of their seafood, this did not deliver. It tastes no different from frozen seafood from Toronto. I also find the dishes to be on the oily side.

Ambience: 9.5/10
Bubba Gump definitely has a unique environment. It's very loud, but friendly and warm. Definitely good for a family gathering, or a night out with a bunch of friends. Oh, and if you order a large beer, they give you the beer mug (or whatever you call it) free. Also, they also give you a little souvenir to bring home for each visit.

Service: 7.5/10
Service was a tad bit on the slow side and we can never find our waiter. The food also took a while to come. BUT the staff is very friendly.

Price: 7/10
$20-$25 per person without a drink. The price is decent, but the food and portions did not really match the price in my opinion.

Final Verdict: 7/10
I was stuffed in a not-so-satisfying way. I did not really appreciate that. We've passed by another Bubba Gump in Universal City, but we went to another restaurant. I think you get the point ;)

I'm back!

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I'm back! I will be posting a series of posts on my food adventures in LA and Seattle. There will be a bunch of posts in the next few weeks (hopefully). So stay tuned!

International House of Pancakes. This is a fast-food type of pancake house that can be found all over the US, they even have a few in Niagara Falls, Canada (although not as good). Oh by the way, this is my first IHOP experience.

This is the first meal after a 6 hour plane ride, so I didn't go for the syrupy specialties and ordered the Veggie Omelette. I like how they provide you with calories count for each item on the menu and they also offer a lot of healthy alternatives that's equally appetizing. There's mushrooms, spinach and mozzarella inside the omelette. It was a very refreshing brunch, not to mention an energy booster!

For those who live in Scarborough, we also have this in Pacific Mall!

This is the perfect treat for a scorching hot summer day. I'm usually not a fan of fried anything, but they managed to make the puff and the cream inside very light. The cream is cooled but not hard, which is a nice touch and you could actually see grounded vanilla beans when you bite into it. Although I have to say it's a little bit messy to eat.
